Custody
The model is the same.
The paper is not.
A consumer account is decided by settings. A business tenant is decided by a contract. Hardware you own is decided by nothing. That comparison comes before features.
| Question | Consumer account | Business contract | Your hardware |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who decides | A settings page you can miss | A contract you signed | No counterparty |
| Where the file sits | Their region, their disk | A region named in the order | The machine in your room |
| Training on what you type | Often on, or opt-out buried | Usually off by contract | Does not arise |
| When it is wrong | A chat you cannot produce | Logs if you negotiated them | A record you can read |
Vendor terms move. Self-hosting open weights ends the custody question — it does not end the operational one. That is the work.
